My advice - avoid Snapfish photo books

A sorry story about printing a photo book through Snapfish (in the UK). This is just my feel with the visitor and my opinion of its service. Other people might have been luckier - unfortunately for me (and Snapfish I judge) it was my first and last brush with them!

1. Asked to take wedding ceremony pics for cousin-in-law in Italian republic

2. Very pleased with what I got, decided to put them into a photo book. Had already been very impressed with Photobox and Kodak Gallery books, just felt they were slightly limited in book size (pages) and page layouts.
3. Decided to try Snapfish, which was making a big affair of its book printing.

4. Absolute nightmare trying to get photos uploaded to the website. Uploads either failed, or appeared to exist successful merely photos were not visible.

v. More nightmares trying to design volume. Book design plugin constantly froze or crashed both IE and Firefox.

vi. Contemporary "volume preview" mode makes it fifty-fifty harder to see final pages than in blueprint manner.

7. When volume arrived (£50 spent on printing it) photos were disappointingly low quality. Many were banded either horizontally or vertically, many were dingy and soft. I ordered some normal prints to check the uploaded files were okay and these came back sharp and clear.

8. It was now iii weeks after wedding and couple were politely nudging me nigh seeing photos, then felt I had to post off volume – and certainly didn't have the time or coin to redesign it elsewhere.
9. Complained to Snapfish finish of July.

10. 2 weeks into August finally get a response, simply demands I post the book back – which is now impossible for obvious reasons (do they remember I'chiliad going to put off the married couple for another two weeks until I hear from them and and then for however long information technology takes to render the book to them for assessment?)

11. Snapfish replies to say that without the volume I'll get no refund and they can't accept whatsoever activity. They exercise however credit my business relationship with some free photograph credits, which is nice, but pretty useless considering it'south a photo book I take a trouble with.

12. I won't exist using Snapfish again and I'd recommend you observe alternatives if you lot want a photograph volume besides.

NB – just to add that despite the outcome, the people I dealt with at Snapfish'southward complaints department were extremely polite and I got the feeling they would have done a lot more if policy/management allowed them.

Compassion a poor quality book got out to you

& their QC should have caught it, merely I don't blame them for wanting to see the book before reprinting for you. If I were y'all I'd ask the couple to give information technology back to you. They'd probably be happy to if it means getting an even improve one.

Re: At least you got a volume!

I tried to use Mypublisher.com as they had very proficient reviews. Downloaded their software - very good - and uploaded. To cut a long story brusk, I found out there had been a trouble with the upload only when I chased to find out where my order was. Eventually uploaded 3 times, over a catamenia of more a fortnight, finding it very difficult to become any help from them. Never did get a successful upload.

Finally used apple (I am a mac user) after resetting the pics in iPhoto. Not sure the impress quality is the best, but it seems more or less acceptable. (Customers liked them too). Also, postage and VAT double the cost. But it does all seem to work smoothly. Unfortunately it has an apple logo on the dorsum cover, only I can live with that for now.

If anyone knows of a book printer in the united kingdom of great britain and northern ireland that supports macs, is a reasonable cost and expert quality, please let me know.

In the meantime I will go along to use the apple service. The latest version of iPhoto supports more and amend covers, and it all "does what information technology says on the tin can".

Re: At least y'all got a book!

First time I tried a photo book (virtually three years ago) it was through iPhoto - but eventually cancelled the order equally it turned out the max impress resolution possible at the fourth dimension was 150dpi. Might have inverse now.

Since so I've only used on-line design services, such as Photobox in the Great britain and Kodak in the Usa (will post to UK and even with postage worked out cheaper than Apple tree's service).

I'd certainly recommend both - the merely downside is currently you're express to l page books and to their folio layouts.

I've yet to find a good service where I tin can download the software to my Apple or PC and blueprint the book, then upload the pdf to a printer.

Thank you - BT

Re: Pity a poor quality book got out to you lot

The couple were over the moon with the volume and pics, and then perhaps I'm just being picky...only I estimate they wait at the photos with unlike eyes to me. I just don't like sending people annihilation I wouldn't be 100% happy getting. I was forced to practise so, so the damage (to me at least) has been washed!

I understand why SNapfish would want to see the volume and without information technology they tin't actually tell me whether it was a q/c trouble, or if that is just the best they tin achieve with their gear up-up. Nevertheless, they wouldn't even answer simple questions like what their impress resolution was - which doesn't require the book.

They've too not addressed the technical problems with the uploading, or book design, which again, has zip to do with the book itself.

In the scheme of things, it's all sorted. The couple are happy. I'll non use or recommend Snapfish again and at that place are lots of improve alternatives out there, so no skin off my nose. Snapfish have lost my custom because they insisted on seeing the volume before they did anything - probably no skin off their nose, they've got lots of other customers who are presumably extremely happy with the service.

Just wanted to requite people pause for idea nigh spending lots of cash on Snapfish photo books and take a skilful look at any they do order for quality problems.

Take care - BT

Re: At least y'all got a volume!

Hi,
I ever assumed that Apple used Kodak to do their photobooks. Am I incorrect?

The books I got from Apple tree were a bit grainy. The photos were ISO200-400 and high resolution. Can I look ameliorate from Kodak?

Thank you,
Ed

Re: At least you got a volume!

You lot could be correct - it'southward certainly confusing working out who supplies who.

Certainly when I tried to practice my get-go photobook (of my wedding/honeymoon pics) about three years ago, I spent a lot of time in iPhoto laying the book out so when it came to upload kept getting rejected. When I contacted Apple client service I was told their system wouldn't have pictures above 150 dpi and I should downsize my pics to apply the iPhoto book printing service.

I did some enquiry and found if I went to Kodak in the The states, I could upload 300 dpi photos, get a book printed (with more design flexibility than the iPhoto options at the time) and get it shipped to the UK for less than Apple UK was going to accuse me for a 150dpi book shipped from Europe (I think).

What I don't know is if the Kodak US book WAS really printed at 300dpi - but I was certainly very pleased with the result. I've also been very pleased with the books I've had since from Photobox.

I've since suffered the iBook PMU error, and work uses PCs, so haven;t used iPhoto for some time. I doubtable their volume printing has moved on since my experience.

Re: My advice - avoid Snapfish photo books

My girl recently used this company http://world wide web.cewe-photobook.co.uk/photobook_photobook_download_software_2_0.php?gclid=CIGKlfn4_40CFSfxEAodDCrqQg . She found the software easy to use and the service great.

She uploaded a 'Square Linen' book of 52 pages on a Thursday evening. After the upload she realised there was a appointment mistake on one page, for the date of a hymeneals! She phoned at 9.00am on the Friday to be told information technology was too belatedly to cancel the social club. However if she returned the volume promptly a refund would be issued. The book arrived on the Monday, was returned on the Wednesday and a refund given to the banking concern account on the Friday. Now there is service.

She was very pleased with the quality and has since reordered, with the correct information, and recieved a brilliant book.

Re: At least you got a volume!

The Kodak NexPress is used for books produced past Apple. One-time ago Apple used HP Indigos at MyPublisher to produce books.

If yous can become a book dine of the HP Indigo press yous find y'all have a better quality product. Yous tin check out the HP site and search for Indigo for an online demo of the technology.
